ChatGPT Ads in Singapore: What Advertisers Should Know

Updated 17 October 2026

Short answer: ChatGPT Ads opened to Singapore advertisers on 23 September 2026, shown only to Free and Go plan users aged 18 and over, labelled and placed below the answer. Buying is per click or per thousand impressions through OpenAI's Ads Manager or an agency. The ad sends a visitor to a page on your site, so the page decides whether the spend produces an enquiry. Facts below are from OpenAI's published announcements and help centre, checked 17 October 2026.

Are ChatGPT ads available in Singapore?

Yes, since 23 September 2026. OpenAI's announcement, ChatGPT Ads expands to Southeast Asia and Taiwan, named Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam and Taiwan, taking the product past 60 countries. It followed Asia-Pacific launches in Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea and India.

The timeline:

Buying routes named by OpenAI are its Ads Solutions team, agency partners including dentsu, Havas Media, Omnicom Media, Publicis Groupe and WPP, technology partners, and self-serve Ads Manager at ads.openai.com. OpenAI said the ads business had reached a US$1 billion annualised run rate by the end of August 2026.

How are ChatGPT ads shown?

OpenAI's help centre article Ads in ChatGPT: the basics and the January announcement set out the format and the rules.

Format and placement:

  • Ads appear below the answer, labelled as sponsored and separated from the response.
  • Each ad carries the advertiser name, logo, a headline, a description, an image and a landing page link.
  • Selection is based on relevance to the context and intent of the conversation.

Who sees them:

  • Free and Go plan users only. Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise plans are ad-free.
  • No ads to users who say they are under 18 or whom OpenAI predicts to be under 18.
  • No ads near sensitive or regulated topics; OpenAI names health, mental health and politics.

What OpenAI commits to:

  • Ads do not influence the answer ChatGPT gives.
  • Conversations are kept private from advertisers and user data is not sold to them.
  • Users can switch off ad personalisation and clear the data used for ads.

Pricing, per the help centre: a Reach objective buys impressions on a CPM basis and a Clicks objective buys on a CPC basis, with advertiser-set maximum bids. Published trade reporting in October 2026 described a recommended starting bid of US$3 to US$5 per click in the United States; treat that as an estimate, not a Singapore rate card.

How do they compare with Google Ads?

The two products answer different moments. A Google search is a query; a ChatGPT conversation is a task with context. The table compares what is published.

Three practical differences for a Singapore SME:

  • Volume is unknown. Google publishes search volume estimates; OpenAI does not publish conversation volume by topic or country.
  • Intent is often earlier. A user asking ChatGPT to compare accounting options is further from buying than one searching "accounting firm Raffles Place". Expect lower conversion per click and plan the landing page for a comparison stage.
  • Measurement is newer. Set up the tracking before spending, and compare cost per enquiry against your Google Ads number after 30 days, not after 3.

The right budget test is small and dated: a fixed sum, one service, one landing page, 30 days, then a side-by-side cost per enquiry.

What should the landing page contain?

The ad is a headline and a description. Everything that converts is on the page it links to, and ChatGPT users arrive with a question half-answered. The page should finish the answer.

Required elements:

  • A headline that matches the ad and the conversation topic. If the ad promised "GST registration for new companies", the page says so in the first line.
  • The direct answer in the first screen: what you do, for whom, the price or starting price, the time it takes.
  • Proof a buyer can verify: licence numbers, years operating, named clients with permission, a figure.
  • One action. A WhatsApp button with a prefilled message, or a short form that writes to your own database. Not both competing in the same screen.
  • Load time under the 2.5-second LCP threshold on mobile, because the ChatGPT app sends phone traffic.
  • A PDPA notice at the form stating purpose and retention, as the PDPA requires.

Elements to remove:

  • A home page as the destination. It answers nothing specific.
  • Pop-ups, chat widgets and cookie walls stacked on the first screen.
  • Claims the page cannot support. The visitor just read a neutral answer; a sales tone contrasts badly.

Track each ad visit to an enquiry. Use a distinct landing URL or a UTM-tagged link, store the source with the lead, and read enquiries per 100 clicks by channel. The website audit checklist covers what to check when clicks arrive and enquiries do not.

Paid placement or organic citation: which to fund first?

Fund the page first, then the citation, then the ad.

The reasoning:

  • Both routes end on the same page. A landing page that states services, prices and a contact route converts paid and organic visitors alike; one that does not wastes both.
  • Organic citation compounds. ChatGPT search cites pages it can crawl and that answer the question plainly. OpenAI's bot documentation requires OAI-SearchBot to be allowed. Once a page is cited, it is cited at no cost per click. The method is in how to get mentioned by ChatGPT.
  • Ads buy presence where you are not yet cited. For a new service or a new business with no citations, the ad is the faster route, and the 30-day test tells you the cost per enquiry.
  • Ads are excluded from the topics where many Singapore SMEs operate. Health and mental health are named by OpenAI as excluded; clinics and therapists depend on organic citation.

A sequence that fits a S$3,000 to S$5,000 marketing budget: spend on the service pages and their facts in month one, confirm citations and Google indexing in month two, run a capped ad test in month three against the Google Ads cost per enquiry. GEO vs SEO explains how the organic work overlaps with existing search work.

What cense does

cense builds the pages that ads and AI answers send traffic to, with every lead stored in the client's own database and the source recorded. The marketing AI agent writes articles nightly from the client's industry and competitor posts for the client to approve, which is the organic citation work above. Are ChatGPT ads available in Singapore?

Yes. OpenAI announced on 23 September 2026 that ChatGPT Ads were rolling out to Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam and Taiwan, with self-serve buying through Ads Manager for eligible businesses.

Who sees ads in ChatGPT?

Users on the Free and Go plans, aged 18 and over. Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise plans do not show ads.

Do ChatGPT ads change the answer?

OpenAI states that ads do not influence the answers ChatGPT gives and that they are labelled and shown separately, below the response.

How are ChatGPT ads priced?

OpenAI's help centre describes a Reach objective bought per thousand impressions and a Clicks objective bought per click, with advertiser-set maximum bids.

Should I run ChatGPT ads or work on being cited organically?

Fix the site first. Both the ad and the organic citation send the visitor to the same page; if it does not state services, prices and a contact route, neither pays.
