How to Move a Website off Wix or Framer
Short answer: neither Wix nor Framer lets you download your site and host it elsewhere, so a move is a rebuild. What you can export is data: contacts and products from Wix, CMS collections from Framer. Rankings survive if every old URL gets a 301 redirect to its replacement on the new site, and the domain and email move in a planned order. Estimate 3 to 6 weeks for a typical business site.
Platform statements and prices below are from each company's own pages, checked 17 October 2026.
Can you export a Wix or Framer site?
Both platforms say no to a full export.
- Wix. The Wix Help Center states that a Wix site needs to be hosted and operated on Wix's servers, and that the content you build on Wix belongs to you.
- Framer. The Framer help article states that Framer does not offer HTML export for self-hosting, and does not provide a way to export published sites as HTML files or static bundles.
Data exports are a different matter. The table shows what each platform documents.
| Item | Wix | Framer |
|---|---|---|
| Pages, layout, design | No export | No export |
| Blog posts | Wix states it is not possible to export blog posts to other platforms | CSV via the CMS Export plugin |
| Store products | CSV, up to 5,000 products, digital products excluded | Not applicable |
| Contacts and form submissions | CSV export from the dashboard | CSV from form submissions in the project |
| Images and files | Download from the media manager, one by one or in batches | Download from assets, or save from the live site |
| Domain bought on the platform | Transferable, see below | Transferable, see below |
Copy the text of every page into a document before anything else. The text is yours; the page that holds it is not.
What has to be rebuilt by hand?
Everything a visitor sees is rebuilt on the new platform. The list for a typical 5 to 15 page business site:
- Page templates. Home, service pages, about, contact, blog list and blog post.
- Navigation and footer. Menu order, legal links, address and registration number.
- Forms. Field names, validation, the thank-you page, and where submissions go.
- Blog posts. Wix posts are copied out by hand. Framer posts come from the CSV.
- SEO fields. Title tag, meta description and canonical URL for every page. Export them into a sheet first so nothing is lost.
- Integrations. Analytics, Search Console verification, WhatsApp links, booking widgets, payment buttons.
- Images. Re-exported at the sizes the new site needs, with alt text re-entered.
A rebuild is also the moment to fix what the builder forced on you.
How do I keep Google rankings when leaving Wix?
Rankings belong to URLs. If the new site uses different URLs and the old ones return 404, the ranking signals stop. Google's site move documentation sets the method:
- List every old URL. Take them from the Wix or Framer sitemap, Search Console's Pages report and analytics.
- Decide the new URL for each one. Keep the same path where you can; the fewer changes, the fewer redirects.
- Set a 301 redirect from each old URL to its replacement on the new host. Redirects set inside Wix or Framer die when the plan is cancelled.
- Update internal links and canonical tags on the new site so they point at the new URLs directly.
- Submit the new sitemap in Search Console.
- Keep the redirects live. Google's guidance is at least 1 year.
Google states you may see ranking fluctuations while it recrawls and reindexes. This settles in weeks. A missing redirect map does not. The full checklist is in website redesign without losing rankings.
Two platform notes:
- Wix adds a default structure to some URLs, such as /post/ for blog posts and /product-page/ for products. Map these one by one.
- A site on a Framer subdomain or a wixsite.com address cannot redirect after the plan ends. Move to your own domain first, let Google reindex, then migrate.
How do I move the domain and email safely?
The domain is the one asset that must not go dark. Order matters.
Domain registered elsewhere, connected to Wix or Framer. Nothing to transfer. When the new site is tested, change the A and CNAME records at your registrar to point at the new host. Keep every MX, TXT and SPF record as it is.
Domain bought from Wix or Framer. Transfer it to a registrar you control before cancelling the plan.
- Wix sends the transfer authorisation code, also called the EPP code, to the registrant contact email, per its transfer-away article. Wix also states that transferring the domain away disconnects the Wix site, so do this after the new site is live.
- ICANN's registrant FAQ states that a registrar may deny a transfer within 60 days of registration, that a transfer is blocked for 60 days after a change to the registrant name, organisation or email, and that the registrar must provide the authorisation code within 5 calendar days of a request.
- Allow up to 7 days for the transfer itself.
Email. Email never runs on Wix or Framer page hosting. It runs on Google Workspace, Microsoft 365 or the registrar's mail service, and is pointed at by MX records. Before changing any DNS:
- Screenshot every DNS record.
- Confirm the MX, SPF, DKIM and DMARC records are copied to the new DNS host exactly.
- Change the website records only. Leave mail records alone.
- Send a test email in and out after the change.
The safest sequence is: build the new site on a temporary address, test it, add the redirects, switch DNS, confirm email still works, then transfer the domain if needed, and only then cancel the old plan.
How long does a migration take?
Estimate for a 5 to 15 page business site, with content already written:
| Stage | Duration | Who |
|---|---|---|
| Inventory: URLs, SEO fields, exports, DNS screenshots | 2 to 5 days | Owner and developer |
| Build: templates, pages, forms, integrations | 2 to 3 weeks | Developer |
| Review and edits | 3 to 7 days | Owner |
| Redirects, DNS cutover, Search Console, tests | 1 to 2 days | Developer |
| Domain transfer, if needed | Up to 7 days, can overlap | Owner |
Total: 3 to 6 weeks. The estimate stretches when copy is rewritten during the build.
What does it cost compared with staying?
Staying has no project cost and a recurring one. Leaving has a project cost and, on a coded site with hosting you own, close to none after.
Published plan prices, monthly, billed yearly, checked 17 October 2026:
| Option | Monthly | 3-year software cost | Site can leave later |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wix Light | US$17.77 | US$639.72 | No |
| Wix Business | US$39.77 | US$1,431.72 | No |
| Framer Basic | US$10 | US$360 | No |
| Framer Pro | US$30 | US$1,080 | No |
| Coded Next.js site | S$0 maintenance | Build fee once | Yes, code and hosting are yours |
The plan price is not the whole bill. Extra Framer editors are US$20 a month each. Wix apps for forms, bookings and reviews carry their own subscriptions. The cost that appears on no pricing page is that every future redesign is another rebuild from zero.
A custom build costs more in year one. Published prices for Singapore studios are compared in website design cost in Singapore. The right comparison is year three, with ownership on the same line.
What cense does
cense rebuilds Wix and Framer sites in Next.js, hosted on the client's own Vercel or Google Cloud account, with the redirect map and DNS cutover included. The client owns the domain, code, hosting and data, with S$0 monthly maintenance. See website infrastructure.
Can I export my Wix website to another host?+
No. Wix states that a Wix site must be hosted and operated on Wix's servers. You can export contacts and store products as CSV files, but pages, design and blog posts are rebuilt on the new platform.
Can I export a Framer site as HTML?+
No. Framer states it does not provide a way to export published sites as HTML files or static bundles. CMS collections can be exported to CSV with a marketplace plugin; pages are rebuilt.
Will I lose Google rankings when I leave Wix?+
Not if every old URL redirects to its replacement with a 301 and the redirects stay live for at least 1 year, which is Google's guidance. Expect some fluctuation for a few weeks while Google recrawls.
How do I move a domain bought from Wix?+
In the Wix Domains page choose Transfer Away from Wix, receive the EPP code at the registrant email, and start the transfer at the new registrar. ICANN rules block transfers within 60 days of registration or a registrant change.
How long does a Wix or Framer migration take?+
Estimate 3 to 6 weeks for a 5 to 15 page site: 1 week of inventory and redirect mapping, 2 to 3 weeks of build, 1 week of testing and DNS cutover. cense delivers a first draft 14 days after one call.
Is it cheaper to stay on Wix?+
In year one, usually yes. Over 3 years a Wix Business plan at US$39.77 a month billed yearly costs US$1,431.72 in software alone, and the site still cannot leave. A coded site is paid once and owned.
