Website Traffic but No Enquiries: 9 Causes
Short answer: a site with visitors and no enquiries has one of nine problems, and most can be found in an afternoon with analytics, Search Console and a phone. The common ones: the traffic is not buyers, the page does not say what you sell and for whom, there is no next step, trust signals are missing, contact takes more than one tap, or the page is slow or broken on phones. Measure enquiries per visit by landing page, then fix the page with the most visits and the fewest enquiries.
Benchmarks and documentation are linked and were checked 17 October 2026.
Why does my website get visitors but no enquiries?
The nine causes, in the order to check them:
- The visitors are not buyers. Blog posts, job seekers, students and your own staff all count as traffic.
- The page does not say what you do, for whom, or where. A visitor who cannot confirm in 5 seconds that you serve their need in Singapore leaves.
- There is no next step. No price, no price range, no "what happens after you contact us". The visitor has no reason to act now.
- Trust signals are missing. No reviews, no named people, no address, no registration number, no named clients or projects.
- Contact takes too many steps. The button is in a menu, the form has 9 fields, or the only option is email.
- The site is slow or breaks on phones. Buttons overlap, text is cut, the page shifts while loading.
- The form is broken. Submissions never arrive and nobody has tested it. See website enquiries not arriving.
- The page answers the question and stops. Informational pages that rank well often have no link to the service that solves the problem.
- The visitor is sent away. Links to Facebook, a marketplace listing or a PDF brochure move the visitor off the page where they could have enquired.
Causes 1, 6 and 7 are measured. Causes 2 to 5, 8 and 9 are read: open your 5 most-visited pages on a phone and check each against the list.
For scale, Unbounce's Conversion Benchmark Report analysed 41,000 landing pages, 464 million visitors and 57 million conversions and found a median conversion rate of 6.6%, with industry medians from 3.8% to 12.3%. Those are dedicated landing pages. A full business website with blog and about pages mixed in will sit lower. The useful number is your own, by page, tracked over time.
Is the traffic the right traffic?
Start in Google Search Console and Google Analytics 4. Three checks:
- Pages that get the visits. Open the Performance report in Search Console and sort by clicks. If the top 5 are blog posts or a careers page, the traffic is informational and enquiries will be few until those pages link to a service page.
- Queries that bring them. Read the query list for the top pages. "How to" and "what is" queries are research. "Price", "near me", "Singapore" and a service noun are purchase queries. Count the share of each.
- Visitor location. In GA4, filter sessions by country. Traffic from outside Singapore and Hong Kong, for a business that serves Singapore and Hong Kong, is not going to enquire.
Singapore had 5.78 million internet users in late 2025, 98.4% of the population, per DataReportal's Digital 2026 Singapore. The market is small enough that 1,000 visits a month from the right queries matter more than 10,000 from the wrong ones.
What to do with the result:
- Add a short section and a link to the relevant service on every informational page that ranks.
- Write or improve the service pages for the purchase queries you are not yet ranking for.
- Stop counting total sessions. Count sessions on service pages from Singapore.
Which trust signals do buyers check?
A visitor who has found the right page still has to believe you. The signals that do that work are concrete and checkable.
| Signal | What to show | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Reviews | Google review count and rating, linked to the profile | Home page and service pages |
| People | Names, roles and photographs of the people who do the work | About page, service pages |
| Place | Street address, postal code, map link, UEN or BRN | Footer on every page |
| Proof of work | Named clients with permission, or described projects with dates and figures | Service pages |
| Price | A price, a range or a starting price with what it includes | Service pages |
| Response | How fast you reply, in hours, and through which channel | Beside the contact button |
| Credentials | Licences, memberships, certifications with the issuing body | About page, footer |
BrightLocal's Local Consumer Review Survey 2025 found 92% of consumers read online reviews for local businesses and only 4% say they never do. If your Google profile has 3 reviews and the competitor has 80, the website cannot close that gap on its own; ask every completed job for a review.
Stock photographs, unnamed testimonials and badges with no issuer do the opposite of what is intended. Remove them.
How many steps does it take to contact you?
Count them on a phone, from the top of a service page, as a visitor who has decided to ask.
- One tap is the target: a WhatsApp or call button visible without scrolling and fixed on screen on phones.
- A short form of 4 to 5 fields on each service page, not only on a contact page. Name, phone, service, message, and the consent line.
- No account, no captcha puzzle, no PDF. Each is a step; each loses people.
- A reply time stated beside the button. "Replies within 2 working hours on weekdays" sets the expectation and gets the tap.
- The same button on every page, including blog posts.
A phone check also finds cause 6. Run the page through PageSpeed Insights on mobile. Google's Core Web Vitals thresholds, measured at the 75th percentile of visits, are a Largest Contentful Paint under 2.5 seconds, Interaction to Next Paint under 200 milliseconds and Cumulative Layout Shift under 0.1. A page that fails these on mobile is losing visitors before the button renders. Unbounce's data puts 83% of landing page visits on mobile, converting 8% worse than desktop.
For which channel to lead with, see WhatsApp vs contact form.
How do I measure enquiries per visit?
One number per landing page, reviewed monthly.
- Define the enquiry events. Form submission, WhatsApp button tap, phone number tap, and email link tap.
- Mark them as key events in GA4. Google's documentation on key events describes how any collected event can be marked as one. Key events is GA4's name for what were called conversions.
- Open the Landing page report and add the key events column. Divide key events by sessions for each page.
- Segment by source, organic, paid, direct and referral, because they behave differently.
- Count the real enquiries in your database or inbox for the same month and reconcile. If GA4 shows 40 form submissions and you received 12 emails, see cause 7.
- Pick the one page with the most sessions and the lowest rate. Fix it against the 9 causes. Measure again next month.
A simple sheet with page, sessions, enquiries and rate per month is enough. The decision each month is the same: which page gets the next hour of work.
If enquiries are logged in a database you own, step 5 is a query rather than an inbox count.
